Hayden Spencer

Hayden is currently performing in HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD at the Princess Theatre Melbourne (nominated for 8 Helpmann Awards.)

He has most recently appeared in Jasper Jones and The Odd Couple with the Melbourne Theatre Company as well as appearing in the acclaimed feature film, JUDY AND PUNCH.

In 2014 Hayden was nominated for a Helpmann Award for his portrayal of Anthony in End of The Rainbow with the Queensland Theatre Company.  He also won a Matilda award for this performance. 

 

His previous theatre credits include: Jasper Jones, The Odd Couple, The Beast, Elling, Australia! The Show!, Cyrano de Bergerac for the Melbourne Theatre Company. The Messiah, Eating Ice-cream with your eyes closed for Hothouse Theatre.

Queensland Theatre Company productions include: Brisbane; An Oak Tree; Sacre Bleu; American Buffalo; A Streetcar Named Desire; Eating Ice Cream With Your Eyes Closed; The Real Inspector Hound / Black Comedy (double bill); The Lonesome West; The Messiah; Buried Child; and The Australian Sitcom Festival.

Prior to his current engagement, Hayden was travelling the world, performing as “the King” in Cirque du Soleil’s KOOZA . 

KOOZA is his second show with Cirque, having previously toured for many years with Cirque du Soleil’s DRALION as CLOWN VINCENTE.

He has been a long term Director and Coach at the National Institute of Circus Arts.  Together with his wife, Carita, they have produced and directed a number of innovative productions for this institution.

DIRECTOR

Hayden recently devised and Directed THE DROUGHT circus narrative performance for The Woodford Folk Festival, featuring Adam O’Connor-McMahon.  Prior to this, he was at the helm of The Gremlin Project for the Woodford Folk Festival and The Cairns Festival.
Hayden has Directed and devised the following for the National Institute of Circus Arts
: Things not of this earth / Alwin in E-minor / The cardboard box show / Pescado.

 

For LAboite Theatre he Directed Way Out West; and Long Gone Lonesome Cowgirls. 

Hayden has also been the Fight Director on several stage productions including: The Tempest; Vertigo & the Virginia (QTC); Rio Saki & Other Falling Debris (Laboite Theatre). 

FILM & TELEVISION

Film and Television roles include: Judy and Punch, Mystery Road (David Jowsey Films), Kensational (SBS Documentary); Flipper; and Medivac.

SHORT FILM

Short film credits include: The true history of Billie the Kid; It’s Hot; A Good Death; Eustice Solves a Problem; and The Fencer.

Further awards Hayden has received include the Actor’s Conservatory John Dommett Medal (2004), Matilda Awards for his body of work in 2001, 2003, 2004 and his performance in 2013 and the Dell’arte Chart Awards from 2000 – 2004 & 2013.
